2017-2020
Kindergarten through fifth grade continues to advance in their understanding of ceramics and clay. Every year they complete a new ceramics lesson and learn new techniques. Middle school students sixth through eighth grade can choose ceramics through choice, which is an elected class period. I am always impressed by how my students use their knowledge in new ways in their artworks. Check out some of the beautiful pieces below!

Now every grade is working with clay at least once a year. Kindergarten starts with the simplest pinch-pot and clay exploration as well as first grade. First grade used their skills to create pinch-pot frogs that extends the Monet lesson we do. Second grade created larger pinch-pots and added handles and other accessories. Third grade created fun sea turtles to extend the turtle lesson we do. Fourth grade learned how to create a coil pot, larger than a pinch pot. Fifth grade extends their metaphor monster lesson and creates their inner monster first in drawing and paint and then with clay. 6th, 7th, and 8th has ceramics studio choice and may create and perfect what they like. Their imagination is the limit! In Ceramics Studio Choice students learn to perfect their beginner level techniques and slowly learn more proficient and advanced level ceramics such as using molds, large vessels, and carving.
